Description: The City of Memphis Engineering Department – Mapping Division created the drainage basins based on watersheds. In general, watersheds delineate an area or region drained by a river, river system, or other body of water. The drainage basins in this layer are based on a hierarchical system of hydrologic units. These hydrologic units have several levels of geographical sized areas, the smallest of which is the subwatershed. The subwatershed level serves the purposes of the Engineering Department regarding their sanitary and stormwater efforts. The basins in this layer contain subwatersheds, and in some instances the subwatersheds have been divided further based on the modeling needs of the Engineering Department.
